It takes a barely recognisable scene and displays it in an unusual way; it is a multiple departure from regular perception and perspective. The shallow depth of field and inverted frame evoke a different, and more fantastical, narrative in the piece. It is thematic; the focus is on expression rather than the subject matter alone. Surreality can be subtle, it's not all melting clocks and multiple exposures.
However, that is not to say that this piece isn't a delicate floral nature photograph, too! It is either or both of these things, depending on how it is observed. It's part of the attraction of the piece, to me; it has a subtlety that I am fond of.
Beautiful work; the mix of tone and texture is lovely.
